Emily 1:58 pm one of the problems i have with a lot of people in the faberry fandom is how they’ll all complain that rachel or quinn’s storylines only revolve around their boyfriends and they’re so much more than that … but then they want everything about rachel and quinn to revolve around each other
“For many Western men — and women, for that matter — it is beyond unacceptable for a woman to have hairy legs or armpits: it is inconceivable. The perception that ‘normal’ women should be virtually hair-free is a young one: it began in the 1920s when the struggling Wilkinson Sword Company decided to boost its sales by targeting women, with an advertising campaign that claimed female underarm hair was unfeminine and unhygienic. (Of course, if the latter were true it would have equally applied to both genders, but then again advertising campaigns are notorious for preying on women’s insecurities.) This kind of attitude in advertising and the media is pretty one-sided: the target is almost exclusively women who are effectively told they are too ugly unless they buy into certain products or services, ranging from hair removal to diets to tanning creams and so on.”—A hairy proposition — Dollmag.ca (via sexisbeautiful)
“Lady Gaga will share the stage with legendary performers such as Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel at a special concert in New York City to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sting’s career on the eve of his 60th birthday.
The concert event is set to take place at the Beacon…
Because Lennox was clearly the first musician to perform in drag. -_-
This is the first post I’ve seen talking about this, other than the post where someone originally made the accusation. I’m going to lay out my thoughts on this too.
Annie Lennox did it before Gaga, of course she did. She’s been around much longer. She did this before Lady Gaga was even born. Two years prior, even.
Get this thought - Jo Calderone was not something crafted for the VMAs. This was not just a stunt she pulled. You can argue all day that everything is a stunt with her, but it isn’t. We first saw Jo a year ago. In an issue of Vogue Hommes Japan. There was even a length interview with Jo. And in Lady Gaga’s most recent video, Jo is there as well, rocking out on top of the piano Gaga is playing. They even have some affectionate interaction.
Now if you are convinced she crafted all this more than a year in the making just to rip off Annie Lennox? Get a fucking grip. No, Lady Gaga is not the first artist to do this. But she is the one doing it right now. I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware that once something had been done, it may never be done again.
Am I the only person that believes Gaga is a genderqueer* person or drag king? Gaga has been Joe before for a magazine shoot and article, she did not just just dress up for the VMAs. The amount of love, care, thought, and backstory with Joe makes me believe that Gaga isn’t being Joe just for kicks, but to really express themself.
But of course, you wouldn’t realize that since you probably just listen to the cheery beats.
That is what I love so much about this song. How up beat and cheery it is. But all the while it’s a really dark song. And I feel like that is a trend throughout their songs. Helena Beat is a really depressing song lyrically, but it is so fun to listen to.
I’ve actually really connected with this album a lot because I feel like it describes how I’ve felt for the past two months. A lot of saying “I’m doing well” and “Things are going good” when inside I miserable. My own state of being, like these songs, gives someone a surface level beauty, but when you look under the surface all you see is desperation and fear.
Funny enough, I hadn’t heard this song until my dad asked me if I’d heard “that really upbeat “all you kids better out run my gun” song” and then pointed it out to me on the radio, so I googled it to tell him what it was. I’m a sucked for delicious beats.
